Three men missing, swept away in Sierra foothills river

Three Sacramento men are missing after being swept away in a Sierra foothills river, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.

An emergency call at 4 p.m. Thursday reported that the three had gone into the swift-flowing water near the junction of Camp Creek and the north fork of the Cosumnes River, 8 miles southeast of Placerville.

Two of the men are 20 years old and one is 24, the sheriff’s office said. Sacramento TV station KOVR quoted a witness as saying that two had gone into the river to try to rescue the third.

The search into Thursday evening and resuming Friday morning has involved sheriff’s deputies and a dive team, fire/rescue crews and a helicopter.
